Happy Valentine's Day & Happy Birthday

Today my baby turns 7! This is hard to believe but to me, she will always be my baby (even though she HATES being the baby!) Happy Birthday Emma Lou - we love you!!

Cupid Came

This morning I had a fun surprise waiting for everyone. We usually have scripture study in the mornings as Bronson and Emmie are waking up and after Maddie and Talbie are (mostly) ready for school. Today as they all brought their grumpy selves to the living room - they had Valentine's Day baskets waiting for them. All of a sudden their moods changed. It's a miracle!!!

Talbie at the Temple

On Thursday nights Dave works in the baptistry of the temple and last night Talbie wanted to go with him. She has only done baptisms once before so I was so proud of her when she came up with the idea all on her own on Wednesday night. I picked her up when she was done and she looked so cute (and grown up). I think she'll be making this a habit on Thursdays now. Hopefully Maddie will get a chance to do this too but she has a mandatory dance class on Thursday nights that she can't miss.

It's Off!

Today was the day when Bronson finally got his cast off. We went down to the training room and Kevin cut it off. Bronson was a bit nervous of the "saw-like" device that he used but was happy to have it off. His arm felt really weird afterwards and his wrist was really sore from not moving it for 4 weeks. It's nice to be over with. Now he can finally take showers by himself and he won't have to put up with the embarrassment of his mother having to wash his hair in the bath tub!

PS - He also got a hair cut today after school. It was looking a bit shaggy!

Our Star

Emmie is the "star" of her class this week because her birthday is on Valentine's Day. We made this poster this weekend and she helped by telling us what she wanted in each sections. One of the sections says "My Hopes". She wanted to find a picture of a "mom" and a "band" because she wants to do both some day.

Kid's Do Say Such Funny Things!

I thought I was getting past the stage where my kids would say something funny that catches me off guard. Yesterday, I had made cookies and Emmie was getting her fill of them before bedtime.

She said...

"Mom, I can't eat anymore cookies - and look at me, I'm getting fat like Oprah!"

I do watch Oprah on rare occasions (if I'm ever home in the afternoons). I don't know where she picked that up. So funny and she made me laugh :)

Ice Fishing

This morning Dave took his scouts ice fishing at Strawberry Reservoir and Bronson got to go! Dave has been Scout Master twice in our ward and now YW 1st counselor over the Teachers. Bronson has been going to camp outs and activities since he was 4. He loves it!

One of the scouts (Devin) caught the only fish and it wasn't even big enough to keep so they had to throw it back.

The "Friend"

I made a new discovery last night and it may be old news to many of you, but I wanted to share it anyway. It seems like I'm on the Church's website almost daily but I rarely visit the Primary section since I'm not in Primary anymore. Bronson is giving a talk on Sunday so I was checking out resources last night and this is what I found...


When you click to view the magazines, they have this wonderful section under the Children's Friend and the kids can click on a story the want to hear and it will read it to them as they follow along in their book at home. Emmie was SO excited about it this morning that she's already listened to one and is trying to kick me off the computer right now so she can hear another one. This is so great for her because her reading skills are quite up to reading the stories completely by herself and she LOVES to have them read to her.

Ouch!!

Yesterday morning Dave took Maddie to school and when he came home, he accidentally slammed his thumb in the door of the car. It was so bad that he had to twist around and open the door with his other hand to get free.

Last night it was so painful for him. He couldn't sleep unless his hand was was elevated high above his head. Then when he'd fall asleep and his hand lowered, it pressure and pain started all over again.

So - once again it was Kevin to the rescue! He drilled holes in his fingernail today to relieve the pressure and it's made a world of difference. Dave had tried to do this last night with a needle that he'd heat up but it didn't work. Kevin had this cool cauterizing tool and it worked like a charm.
Thanks again Kevin and we'll see you next week when we get Bronson's cast off :)

Iggy's

Today was Monday and we lucked out because we were all home in the afternoon. The kids didn't have school and Dave was off work so we celebrated! We tried the new restaurant "Iggy's" (which is actually a sports bar but we were there at 3:00 so it was pretty tame). The food was yummy and we had tons of fun!

Bronson - eating his "garnish". I tried to tell him it wasn't meant to eat, but he can't turn down a vegetable of any kind. What an odd kid :)
