The Honest Woodsman and Winner!

Our elementary school has a "Story Telling Festival" once a year and the kids can all have the opportunity to tell their favorite story. Today the 1st grade had their festival. The three classes met in the schools little theater and each child that wanted to participate, had a chance to tell their story. There were about 7-8 kids that told stories. Then each grade chooses their 2 favorite stories and they will tell them in front of the entire school when they have the school wide storytelling festival.

Emmie really wanted a chance to tell a story. We choose the story of the "Honest Woodsman" and we practiced and practiced it.

She did such a great job today AND... she was chosen to be one of 2 first graders that will tell the story in front of the entire school! She was so excited!!!

Oral Surgery

Today Talbie had to have some oral surgery done at Dr. Crawford's. She had all her teeth in on the top of her mouth except for one stubborn one that won't come down so they had to expose it and attach a brace to it so it could come down into place. She also had to have her very last baby tooth (molar) pulled. Talbie only lost 4 of her baby teeth by herself and the rest had to be pulled to make room for orthodontics!

Here is a before shot. I didn't get an after shot because she was too groggy afterwards. It went well and she's enjoyed her yogurt and ice cream all day today.

Benefit Concert

Tonight Maddie danced in a Benefit Concert at the Scera for a darling girl that dances at her studio. Marianne was born with Spinal Bifida and has always wanted to dance. She now gets that chance at "The Pointe". It was such a great night with all the proceeds going to Marianne for her medical needs.

A couple of these pictures were taken yesterday at the studio and the bottom ones were taken tonight. You can go onto the Pointe's blog and see a video of Marianne dancing. It's so great!

Job Shadowing

Today the 7th graders had the day off of school so they could participate in "Job Shadowing". Talbie has such a love for animals and has thought about becoming a Veterinarian or a Vet's Assistant. She went to a local Veterinarian's office and spent 5 hours with them watching them care for animals, perform surgeries, and give shots. She had a great day and it made her love animals even more!

Sweetheart's Dance

Tonight was the "Sweetheart's Dance" at OHS and Maddie was asked by Johnathon Hale. We think Johnny is such a wonderful guy and we have known him since we moved into this ward when Maddie was 3 and he was 5. I don't want to embarrass either of them too badly here (at least not Johnny but Maddie, I'm sure - has been embarrassed many times by something in this blog) but Dave is always enforcing and reiterating Maddie's curfew but tonight I heard Dave say, "Have her home before 2 - or whenever!" That right there shows you how Dave feels about him.

Maddie has been so social since the day she was born and for the last 2 years it's been such a fight with her because she has wanted to do things that she didn't think were a "date" (like go to movies with boys, etc.) but we have had to be major sticklers and we have had many arguments with her on what qualifies as a "date". I had told her over and over that she would be blessed by not bending the rules and sticking to her values and wait until she was 16 so there was no question.

Her birthday was on the day of the Preference dance and she went and had such a great time. Since then she has had a couple of really fun group dates and is enjoying life. It makes me so excited for her because she waited and she is being rewarded for following the prophet's counsel. I'm so proud of her!

Blue and Gold Banquet

Last night was the Cub Scout "Blue and Gold Banquet" and the last one that we will attend with a cub scout. Having only one boy means that we only have to (I mean get the privilege of...) going through scouting once. Bronson will turn 11 at the end of this year and will become a Boy Scout.

Every year they have the boys bring a cake for dessert. In the past they have judged the cakes and given out awards but they weren't doing that this year so I was lazy and went this route...

and since they weren't giving out awards, Bronson wouldn't win "the girliest" or "the daintiest" cake!

When Maddie got home from school Dave was home so she had him take her driving since she is having a driving test Monday morning and needed to practice. They ended up in American Fork at the D.I.

I hate it when Dave goes to the D.I. This is what he came home with...

...AND wore to the Blue and Gold Banquet! One of his favorite shows to watch right now is "Life on Mars". If you've seen the show - you may see why he wants to dress like this!

Happy Birthday Ally

My cute little niece, Ally turns 1 today. What a beauty she is and we're so glad she part of our family. Have a great day Ally!

Emmie's 1st Grade Program

Tonight was the annual 1st grade program at the school. So far, all 4 of my kids have done the exact same program at the same school. To top it off, all 3 of my girls have worn the exact same dress. So fun!

Emmie's Baking Birthday Party

Part III of Emmie's birthday was her friend party. We went to LYNN's BAKING BIRTHDAYS
Lynn is Dave's sister and she has had this birthday idea for awhile and Emmie was her "trial run". It was such a great party! Here are the highlights...

Each child has their own baking station. They made their bread and then their own homemade pizza

The bread turned out great too and they each had their own loaf to bring home to eat. They also brought home their aprons and Lynn made!

The final surprise was the birthday girl got to bring home her own baking set.

This was such a great party and something different from the same old thing.

My Favorite Present

If you grew up in the 70's like I did (MAN I'm old!) - you will remember these big lip glosses. I had a Dr. Pepper on that lasted me through at least the 3rd and 4th grades! Well, they've made a comeback and last night Emmie got these 3 from Lynn and Kevin's family. I talked her into giving me one (even though I wanted the Bubble Yum one and I got the Reese's). I love it :)

Emmie's Birthday Parts I & II

We really know how to spread a birthday out in this family. Yesterday was Emmie's official bday and she got to go out to lunch and shopping with grandma and grandpa. Then, tonight we had all the family over for cherry cobbler, dough nuts, and ice cream. She was so excited!
